According to Billboard, Paul Tollett, the festival curator and president of Goldenvoice, traveled to Toronto to discuss with members of the Talking Heads the possibility of a reunion for Coachella.
Tollett underscored that he never brought up the topic of payment with the band and, in the end, left without any agreement. Although he didn’t disclose the amount he was willing to offer for a Coachella reunion show, an insider familiar with the festival’s artist payments suggested the potential earnings for the group could have reached as high as $10 million.
Following Tollett’s return, a second proposal emerged, proposing an earning of around $80 million for headlining six to eight festival performances and other top-billing slots. Still, Talking Heads turned it down.
The band’s last reunion was when David Byrne joined his former bandmates Jerry Harrison, Chris Frantz, and Tina Weymouth for a live panel discussion about the film, ‘Stop Making Sense.’ The session was expertly moderated by Spike Lee and marked the first time in over three decades that the group had come together to delve into the project.
