Sammy Hagar Details Grohl’s Permission For The Circle’s Hawkins Tribute

Sammy Hagar recently released a video to tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins on his official YouTube channel. Hagar also revealed how he decided to perform one of the band’s songs by talking about this with his bandmate Dave Grohl.

Foo Fighters were supposed to perform at the Beale Street Music Festival, which took place between April 29 and May 1, 2022, at the Fairgrounds. However, the band members cancelled their live performances soon after a tragic loss. Unfortunately, Hawkins passed away on March 25, 2022;

the festival organizers asked Sammy Hagar and The Circle to perform instead of Foo Fighters, and the singer stated that they didn’t want to accept the offer initially. However, they reconsidered it by defining it as a chance to entertain the audience and share their love and respect for Hawkins. So, Hagar and his bandmates decided to express their thoughts to Grohl, who gave them his blessings.

During their live concert at the festival, The Circle performed Foo Fighters’ iconic song entitled ‘My Hero,’ released on their second studio album, ‘The Colour and the Shape’ on May 20, 1997. Hagar defined their performance as ‘a broken-down version’ by adding that it’s one of his favorite tracks from the band. Sammy reminded the fans that they didn’t do any rehearsal, but being spontaneous is a part of rock and roll.
